Salut de Paris!
This Sunday at 5pm, Johannah and I will take the stage at the Palais de Tokyo for a performance-lecture about our body of work in the form the gods intended: a bastardized version of The Price Is Right!
Happily, this American institution was exported to our very first ally as Le Juste Prix!. So, we offer you L’Injuste Prix!, a game of chance and trivia about all the ways the US has fucked up the world—along with a brief lecture about why this massive garbage fire is our muse! Together, we will cover institutional collapse, money laundering, and Nazis at NASA! Spend the afternoon basking in the gleam of sequins and the fog of war, and in the company of our glamorous game show host, Blanche Poubelle!
The Paris Ass Bookfair is open to the public at the Palais de Tokyo Friday May 16, 5-9pm; Saturday May 17, noon-8pm; and Sunday May 18 noon-8pm. We will perform at 5pm on the final day.
¡AGITPOP! Press invites you to play the game in which contestants guess the price tag! Based on the TV show The Price is Right! (Le Juste Prix !), L’injuste prix ! asks players not to guess the price of household items, but rather the cost of various CIA operations and corrupt schemes the United States has deployed for decades to exert control around the world! This is a gameshow about the transactional nature of empire.
L’injuste prix ! will also serve as a lecture to present the work of ¡AGITPOP! Press, an artist book collaboration between artist Johannah Herr and writer Cara Marsh Sheffler. Based in New York City, the two have collaborated on five book projects. Their newest title, Collateral Magic, is debuting at Paris Ass Book Fair. Collectively, this body of work focuses on how the US government colluded with corporate America to blur the lines between military, political, and cultural conquest in the creation of the so-called American Century. ¡AGITPOP! publications aim to reveal how US history has been advertised to the world, and to portray American decline as what it unavoidably is: a consumer experience.
More than a conventional lecture, L’injuste prix ! will test the live studio audience’s knowledge of modern imperialism, conspiracies, and scandals. Putting history the US doesn’t want you to know in a prime time spot, this gameshow promises big hair and even bigger prizes!
